Sail Watchers

Saturday we did some sail watching from the comfort of a nice, warm and dry club. This is the harbor in Chicago and one of those small sailboats was my oldest grandchild.  She was one of a bunch of high schoolers out in the cold Chicago weather having fun.  Not my idea of a great idea, but she likes it and it is fun to watch.  Small sailboats look like they are gonna turn over all the time, but that is what the crew are actuallly intending to do...yikes!  And bailing is another "fun" thing to do in a boat that the crew does alot of.  We enjoyed our day and were happy to see our grandgirlie's boat placing in the Top Ten in both races we watched. Being raised in Kansas doesn't encourage learning boating sports, so I had no clue what all is involved in sailing.  Now, I have an idea what is involved and am learning some of the jargon.

Magnify Magnolia

Above is the reference image for my Magnify Magnolia ATC that I posted on Wet Canvas.  Below is the finished piece.  It was easier to do than some of the other references, but the upper right color was supposed to be a patch of sky and tree shadows.. I don't like how it turned out.  Live n learn.

Here is another of my quick ATCs.  I did this one for St Pat's Day.  I decided to do just a small part of this very interesting reference.  I posted it on Wet Canvas for the WDE (Weekly Drawing Event). We were all challenged to do something in our posts that said Saint Patrick's Day. I had fun with this one and the small size was hard to get all I wanted into.

Above is the reference photo from Wet Canvas WDE this past week, below is my finished quick ( less than 20 minutes) watercolor of a harbor. It is an ATC size on velllum.  I did a couple of quick washes, then added the pen/ink work.  I wanted to keep it simple and abstract.

'nother day 'nother ATC

Here is an ATC of a very pretty double tulip.  There was only one bloom of this color combination open when I took the original picture.  I like tulips, but don't have very many in my garden.  The critters that eat bulbs seem to like them and they disappear after a year or two.  This is on it's way to a new home.

This picture is not very good, the actual ATC card looks more distinct.   I put flower shapes into clear marbles... This card could fit in 2 of the exchanges I am in. Flowers or From the Past...I used it for the past, because marbles were a fun game to play almost anywhere as a kid.
My group of friends played in the nice fine dirt in the alley, behind our houses.  It wasn't unusual for half a dozen kids to clump around our string circle.

Wow! 2 in a row!

I tried some new techniques that I hadn't done before on some of my ATC card for the Exchange over on Wet Canvas.  This exchange is for the Minatures Forum, so it has to be postcard size or smaller.  I did this on coffee filter with pens and markers that I made bleed thru the filter.  I glued it onto a blank ATC for stability.  It was received and the new owner liked it!
