Art card #36

36 posts for me is a thrill.  I am keeping a promise to myself!!!  Today I did several doodle cards.  This is the last of them.  I like to do them while watching TV.

Art from me # 35

Another day is finishing, the sun is down and it is cold.  this simple painting is what the feeling is right now for me.  I did this with only three colors and the paper is the bottom liner from a case of beer.  I wanted to try painting on cardboard that was not made for painting.  The silver is hard to see in this, it looks sort of whiter than the background.   Just a trial for fun and to see what the paint did.

Art Post # 35

Here is another of my doodles.  This one is not one of my favorites, but it has some nice qualities.  I will add it to my page of doodles and take them to class tomorrow.  I am seeing alot of good ideas of patterens to use for flat pieces of metal, some of them would be neat to try.

Ontime for # 34

I had my Metals class today.  I think I will be using some of the patterns from my doodles for projects for the coming weeks.  I am going to try and do a doodle a day for a few weeks.  These should help me improve my doodles and provide lots of ideas.

Here is another Doodle..as #33

This is another doodle.  I am trying to do at least one a day.  It will help me think about designs I can use over an area.  It should also help me stay focused on my art.  It is hard to do artwork on a daily basis, if you are doing other things that are important.  I am trying to get a routine for myself and my art.  I will post some of my doodles, but I still want to hone my skills in watercolors, ink, acrylics, colored pencils and oil pastels.  I want to try an oil painting.  I don't think I have ever used oils, so I want give them a try.  Watch here on my blog for my first oil painting..

Opps !! is #32 late

Oops, I should have read my post last night!  I usually do, but yesterday I didn't.  So, here is what was supposed to be up here for Post # 32.  It is still number 32, only a day late.  I have discovered doodling..or more like re-discovered doodling.  I did alot of doodling in study hall, mostly.  It was a popular past time of both girls and guys.  I never thought of doodling as art.  This is my first attempt at ink doodling.  I started doodling to try and come up with interesting patterns to use on metal.  I am taking a Basic Metals class and need ideas.  We won't get to the level of doing great and exciting work at least until next term.  Now, it's getting the feel of working with copper or brass, in preparation for making jewelry.  That is my goal..to make a few pieces from  doodles.

# 31 Wishful thinking.....

Even this sharp thistle barb looks nice, on a cold winter day.  The sun was out, but the cold temps were still here all day.  Salted streets, driveway and sidewalks are the order of the day.  This thistle is one of my biggest gardening mistakes!  It was in a mixed flat of prairie flowers....yep, it is a prairie flower, more like a mutant flower.  It got over 7 ft. tall this year, and hacking most of it off din't help much.

Number 30..

Here is my post for today.  It is another ATC size piece.  This is done in ink.  It is also from a reference on WC, I posted it there this week.  I like sketching in ink, but I don't like using ink for bigger pieces.

Post # 29 Hung out to dry..

Why do I seem to always procrastinate?  I guess I function fairly well in the deadline zone?  Here is today's art post.  I know it isn't my usual style, but I think it is an example of how I meet challenges. It is of a work in progress...for the last Halloween Pumpkin Carving/Decorating competition.  It is a big snake that will in the end wind around a pumpkin, provided by the owner of the pumpkin..age 5. Most of the painting is done and it is hung out to dry. I will try and get a post up soon of the finished project.  This was done the day it was due.  I think it turned out nice, but no prize :-(

# 28

Today's post is another ATC, this one is of another winter scene.  These are geese around a pond. I used ink only to do this one, so it is basically a black and white picture. I am going to try and make more of these ATCs.  I like the idea that they are small and don't take much materials.  That is ideal for trying out new ideas and media.

Post # 27 Cold scene in Colored Pencils

Today's post is a winter scene of trees and a sunset. I made it an ATC/ACEO 2.5x3.5 size.  I think I am liking that size.  It makes a good size to practice different media. This is made from a crop of a reference for this week's WDE. If you are looking at my blog, please leave a comment.  I would like to know if anyone is finding it.  I need to find a counter, so I can see the number of visitors.  Until, I do, let me know by posting.

Post 26 Frosted

I woke up today to a Frosted World outside.  It looked like someone had powdered all the trees, each and every branch! This is a color picture, even tho it looks like a monochrome.  Wonder if this would look good in pencil or watercolor?  The wind was so still that the frosting stayed on all day.  The frost was caused by the warm moist air we had yesterday.  Followed by fast dropping temperture last night.  What a winter wonderland we had all day.

Wind farms make for hot debates in the area where I live.  Everyone has an oppinion about them.  Do they ruin the landscape, do they make too much noise for nearby houses and are they worth the price?  A picture of a wind machine was on the front page of the paper this week.  When I went to the WC forum to see what the references for the WDE challenge were, I found a reference of a wind farm!  I decided to use the project for the WDE and for the demo I did on Monday.  I call my oil pastel picture "The Coming Storm".  The sky looks ominous and the wind is bending the Queen Anne's Lace as the blades turn.

Wish it was summer! Post number 24

Here is another post.  This is a painting that I finished during the summer.  I did a series of flowers from my garden.  This cactus blooms every year.  I have given starts of it to others and they love them as an accent piece.  Of course, everyone should paint a yellow cactus!  I think it must be required in some art courses somewhere.

Number 23

Today is number 23 on my try at posting everyday.  I know I have missed a couple of days, but my intention is to have 365 posts.  Hopefully, those will be distributed as close to one each day as I can make them. Another good day!  Met someone that I am going to meet for coffee over at B&N, soon.

This is a good start at meeting my goals for this year.  This is another ATC from the daisy reference. I can't figure out why the placement of the text isn't the same, when the picture is changed from left to right.  I will never understand all the ins and outs of the computer!

Here is #22

Today I started a class in metal work at the jr. college near me.  This is something I have thought about doing for several years.  Now that I have actually started, I want to make an A.  The types of   skills I learn will help with designing and making jewelry.  I won't be making anything that is outstanding, since the techinical side of the pieces I will be doing are the basics of working in metal.  I tried to make a one inch circle in the middle of an inch and a half square using a small hand saw.  I did a miserable job of it!  In fact the teacher said it was a four on a scale of ten....I will post some of the objects I make.  This picture is an ATC one of several I did from the same reference.  It is done in colored pencil.

Post 21

I took both of the 2 versions of "decorates" in a small frame.  They were both done with colored pencils.  One has more detail, because I added a darker yellow.

Number 20, #2 for today

I then cropped the picture, I needed it less detail, so I cropped it down alot.  I wanted to try this picture in two different ways.

Posts Numbers 19& 20& 21

I am posting three pictures today, one at a time, to make up for missing days.  I was busy planning and doind the art for a demo/lecture.  I also started a jr. college class.  I had to have three pieces of art for the demo and a finished piece.  The demo was last night and it went really well.  I was suprised at the full theater and all the questions afterwards. This is my first post...It is the original of the third piece I am putting up today. I chose it from a bunch of pictures for a challenge.

Whoopeee! Got fishies

Saturday Post Number 17

This is hard to see in this size ATC/ACEO, but it is a collage of a flowering bush in front of a wall with a gate.  It looks better IRL.  It was an experiment with crumpled tissue paper and watercolor.  Didn't turn out very well, but I learned from it.  About the TimeCat......it should be either over or under the Friends and Followers area.  By the profile.  I will try and figure out what I am doing wrong.

Number 16 on a Friday

The Boat house
This is another of my ATC/ACEO practice pieces.  I want to do a series of Small Seasons.  I have finished the set for Fall and this is one, of those.  Next will be the Winter series, since I have lots of snow to look at right now.  It is freezing out and there is plenty of snow piled on everything.  I think I will start with a bird house I missed taking in for the winter.  I will put it up on here as soon as I finish it.

Here is my fifteenth picture post, since I started numbering them.  This is an ATC/ACEO of a coming storm over a farm. It is in watercolor.  I grew up watching storms brew over the Central Plains.  Towers of clouds mushrooming above the windmill were a common sight over the farm we lived on.  Many of these clouds held hail, hard rain and even tornadoes.  It could be a hot sunny summer day and in an hour become threatening, dark and errie.  We headed for the basement or storm cellar many times.  I remember one storm that came and passed over us.  Later, it formed a funnel and hit a nearby town.  We went to see the damage and felt lucky we weren't hit.  Growing up on that farm was the best!  It was like "The Little House on the Prairie" everyday. Tornadoes, heat, locusts, wind, dust and blizzards would all be in the book.  Along with days just being a kid.

Redo #14

This is a page from my sketchbook.  I put the pencil in the photo so there would be a way of telling the size.  These were all for the WDE all done for one week's post. If you look down in the old posts, you will see the finished one I posted.  Each of the finished works were 2.5 x 3.5 ATC size.

Guess I pushed a wrong button and posted the title without the post.  I need to put more posts up to learn how to work this composing screen.

number # 13

Guess I missed the Midnight Hour!  I was watching football and forgot to post so I will do another in the morning.   This is a warped peacock..done in Painter 10.  I am working on a painted version(s) of it.  I am not happy with how the acrylic paints are behaving, so I might not finish them.

Number 12 New Year

Happy New Year....

This is my first post of the year 2010 and the 12th in my series.  This is a painted and then warped flower.  I grow it and call it African Daisy, but it might have another name.  I also used ink on the petal edges.  I can't seem to decide what I want to do until I am doing the painting.  Wish I could tell what to expect at the start, but I can't.  I always wonder if it is good enough to post.
