This is a pen and ink sketch that I did for an ATC (Art Trading Card) to be sent to the UK. It is a feather from the pigeon we found in our back yard back in the late summer. It either didn't want or couldn't fly, so we put it in a spare big bird cage. It coo-ed and was nice to have around, but we did lots of searching for it's owner. We put ads on bird racers sites, since we determined it was a homing pigeon and had a leg tag. We checked the pictures of pigeons online and think it was a German Roller. We fed it and let it stay on the screened porch. In late September we opened the cage door and it flew away. It returned to the cage the next day and a couple of times later. I hope it found it's way home and is back with it's racing buddies. Pigeons can fly long distances for a race, so this one could have been from several different states. We will probably never know where it came from or went to. Tuesday, December 14, 2010
